I'm Bob Walter — founder of AchieveMate and Red Sand Research. I've spent 15+ years in technology leadership at companies like Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Akamai, and CACI. I hold an MBA from Loyola Marymount University and a BS in Computer Science from Cal Poly Pomona.
I've sat on both sides of the hiring table — as a candidate trying to stand out, and as a hiring manager reviewing resumes. I know firsthand how the hiring process works, and where it breaks down.
What I saw
As a hiring manager, the candidates who stood out weren't the ones with the most keywords. They were the ones someone could vouch for, or whose work I could see for myself. Most job seekers, especially students, are never taught how to create that.
